c.1959 Japan, 23pc. Huckleberry Hound China Serving Set in Original Box

Extraordinary 23 piece children's china serving set featuring Hanna-Barber's first animated TV hit, Huckleberry Hound. The set is completely unused. It comes in it's original box with insert, separate cover, acetate window, cardboard protector, and window insert. Best of all every piece is flawless without a single chip, crack, repair, or spot of wear.

Today he might be considered an unlikely toy subject, but in 1958 Huckleberry Hound was the first animated cartoon to be awarded an Emmy. To capitalize on the Huckleberry craze unlicensed toys like this streamed out of the far East. Each piece from this set features the same image of Huck leaning against a tree trunk while reeling in a fish. The underside of the plates and teapot are marked "Made in Japan". The actual manufacturer is unknown.

It consists of six gold-rimmed dinner plates (3½"), six saucers (3"), six tea cups with gold trimmed handles (2¼"), a large teapot trimmed in gold with separate fitted cover (5"), a gold trimmed double handled sugar bowl with separate fitted cover (2½"), and a creamer (2").

The generic box was simply marked "China Toy Tea Set". Although cheaply made the design was well engineered. The flawless condition of all 23 pieces is evidence of how well the packaging did what it was supposed to do.

Size: Individual pieces as noted. Box 12" x 9½" x 2½".
